Understanding Fast and Stable Recycle Modes on the FJ400-SEUpdated 19 days ago
What is Fast Recycle Mode on the FJ400-SE?
Fast Recycle Mode delivers a 1-second recycle time for quicker bursts of full-power flash.
This default setting on the FJ400-SE is designed for fast-paced photography scenarios where rapid-fire shooting is necessary. However, it draws a high current, up to 8A at full power, so it’s best used when only one or two strobes are connected to a dedicated power source or breaker.
What is Stable Recycle Mode on the FJ400-SE?
Stable Recycle Mode slows the recycle time to 2.8 seconds but reduces power draw for safer multi-light setups.
When you activate Stable Mode, the strobe uses only 5A at full power. This is especially useful in studios using multiple FJ400-SE strobes on the same outlet or power strip, reducing the risk of overloading circuits or tripping breakers.
How do I switch between Fast and Stable modes on the FJ400-SE?
To toggle modes, press and hold the Modeling Lamp/Recycle Mode button until the “F” or “S” icon updates on the display.
- “F” = Fast Recycle Mode (1s)
- “S” = Stable Recycle Mode (2.8s)
This icon appears in the top-left corner of the FJ400-SE LCD screen. Holding the button cycles between modes to match your lighting and power needs.
When should I use Stable Mode instead of Fast Mode?
Use Stable Mode when powering multiple strobes from one outlet to prevent overloading your circuit.
If you're using three FJ400-SE units in Fast Mode at full power, the combined current draw could exceed 20A, which is enough to trip most standard breakers. Switching to Stable Mode drops that draw to about 15A total, keeping your setup safer and more reliable.
