What USB-C ports are on the Ice Light 3?Updated 2 months ago

The Ice Light 3 features two USB-C ports: one on the battery grip and one on the LED tube. These two USB-C ports give you flexibility for charging and powering the light:

  • Battery grip USB-C: charges the handle battery.
  • LED section USB-C: powers the LED head directly from the wall or external battery including the battery grip.

What is the USB-C port on the Ice Light 3 battery grip for?

Battery grip’s USB-C port can be used to charge the battery itself, power the LED tube via a USB-C to C cord, or as AC power when the battery is attached to the LED tube.

Specifically, the battery grip USB-C port allows you to:

  • Charge the battery handle itself.
  • Run a USB-C to C cable from the battery grip to supply power to the LED tube section to minimize weight when mounting the LED tube up high
  • Trickle charge the battery while it is attached to the LED tube and actively in use

What is the USB-C port on the LED section of the Ice Light 3 for?

The USB-C port on the LED tube allows you to power the light separately.

Use this LED section USB-C port to:

  • Plug into an AC-only kit’s wall adapter for studio use.
  • Connect to an external USB-C battery pack for portable power.

Can I power or charge the Ice Light 3 via USB-C while using it?

Yes, you can trickle-charge the IceLight 3 via USB-C while shooting to extend run time.

To trickle charge during operation:

  1. Attach the battery handle and lock it in place.
