When to Update Firmware

Cameras, triggers, strobes, and other electronic gear may benefit from functionality offered with the latest firmware. Installing Firmware updates from Camera manufacturers may require a firmware update in your FJ system products.  Conversely, loading the latest firmware from Westcott may require your camera to be  running the latest firmware from your camera's manufacturer.  Best practices may be to delay installation of any Camera firmware updates which affect flash and hot shoe operations until an update is available from Westcott if needed.  While Westcott firmware can be rolled back to previous versions, most camera firmware cannot be rolled back.

Westcott firmware updates and complete upgrade instructions for all Westcott products are now found on the firmware download page: https://www.fjwestcott.com/firmware

Updates should be completed using the USB-A to USB-C cord included with the Strobe and Trigger.  Using other connectors may result in error messages.   Error messages can also occur when the wrong firmware is being loaded.

Firmware releases are tested thoroughly before release.  While some bugs may slip through, if your latest update appears to have caused malfunctions, try redownloading the firmware and reupload to your FJ unit.  If the problem persists, notify Westcott customer service immediately. support@fjwestcott.com

When updating the FJ-X2m trigger, after plugging the USB-A side of the cord into your computer, you must press and hold the round button furthest to the right on the trigger before and while inserting the cord into the trigger.  Inserting the cord prior to holding the button will not allow the firmware to be uploaded.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZXf1WYNfN8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PududieGrA&t=69s
